F, C. Davidge & Co., who will give the Hteaiuahip Bristol despatch for the far North next weok, have been, informed through their Seattle and Tacoma agencies that much harm is being done Vic-toria-lClondyke business through the persistent attempts by transportation companies in those cities to make the American travelling public believe they will not be compelled to pay duty on their goods entering Canadian territory. TheBe companies are pressing all kinds of cntft into the Northern trade and for every one there appears to be a load waiting, the impression on tho Sound being quite general that no difficulty will be encountered in avoiding the Canadian customs. The careless travellers seem to give scarce a thought to the mounted police, armed with more than customary power in view of their com-parative "isolation—vigilant and trustworthy.

"I do not think for a moment," said Mr. Davidge yesterday, " but what Canadian law will bo strictly entorc and that the miners who attempt t<- <*» cape it will be fooled.
